Art Review :: ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT: EXPOSE YOURSELF TO ART THAT EXPOSES ITSELF TO YOU // B2 FINE ART EXPLORES THE NUDE

Dave R. Davison Wednesday, 4 February 2015 The nude has been a feature of art ever since the creation of “fertility goddess” figurines in Neolithic times. For the Greeks, the nude was the embodiment of divine perfection. For the artists of the Renaissance, the nude became a means to express emotion and energy. From thence artists of every generation found the human form to be a malleable vehicle of expressive potential and cerebral exploration of forms in space. There are some who have dismissed the nude as politically incorrect. Consequently, contemporary gatekeeper institutions like civic...

Art Review: The Black Aesthetic…tacoma gallery more like a museum than commercial art gallery

Art Review: The Black Aesthetic…tacoma gallery more like a museum than commercial art gallery

In many ways Gary and Deborah Boone operate B2 Fine Art Gallery more like a museum than a commercial gallery - much to Tacoma's great good fortune. They have held survey shows of the best of children's art from around the world, not once, not twice, but three times with their "Beyond Crayons and Finger Painting" series. They have brought us art by nationally prominent African-American artists celebrating Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad in the show "Sweet Freedom's Jubilee." They treated Tacomans with a look at the Northwest School and the Hood Canal Colony with works by Guy Anderson,...

Art Review :: Northwest Mystics : Artistically, iconic and historical works in downtown Tacoma

The "Northwest Mystics" exhibition at Tacoma's B2 Fine Art Gallery is a museum worthy exhibition of works by the Northwest School and the Hood Canal Colony. From the 1920s through the '50s and ‘60s, these were the artists who put the Pacific Northwest in America's art consciousness: Guy Anderson, Elton Bennett, Kenneth Callahan, Waldo and Corwin Chase, Mary Froderberg, Morris Graves, Orre Nobles, Mark Tobey, James Washington and others. It is rare when a commercial gallery is able to get access to such iconic, artistically and historical works of art. Read More - Northwest Mystics Art Review

Art Review :: SPIN 1 :: AMERICAN VINYL — GOSPEL, BLUES, COUNTRY AND FOLK

Musical performances during openings at B2 Fine Art Gallery are nothing new, but the gallery is branching out into music in a big way with the first of a two-part series of art celebrating music. SPIN 1: American Vinyl Exhibition is the first of two shows with portraits of musicians in photography and paint augmented with vinyl records to buy, sell and trade; gallery talks and musical performances throughout the duration of the exhibition. Art Review :: “Bathers of the Sun, Bathers of the Moon”

Leonardo Lanzolla's swimmers(La Bagnanti) are making a big splash at B2 Fine Art Gallery in Tacoma's Triangle District. If you saw Lanzolla's paintings in his last show at B2, that was just a warm-up. The paintings in this show are far superior. Read More - Art Review

Art Review :: I’M EVERY WOMAN EXHIBITION — JILL NEAL

It's hard to seriously consider Jill Neal's pictures art. As printed images on coffee cups and greeting cards and wine labels and tote bags they are witty, joyful, delightful, inventive and just a heck of a lot of fun. But serious art they're not.  Read More - Art Review

Art Review :: “Azul” dives to depths of blue Art Review

Art Review :: “Azul” dives to depths of blue Art Review

It sounds like a tenuous theme for a group show: Art with blue in it. But “Azul,” which opened last week at Tacoma’s B2 Fine Art Gallery, is anything but shallow. Instead it dives to sophisticated depths, sailing smoothly over diverse genres and media and covering a surprisingly wide range of emotion. Read More
